Thegreateromentumisthelargestperitonealfoldwithintheabdomenandhasanimmunologicfunction.Theomentumaidsinisolatingperitonealinfectionandabsorbingcontaminantsthroughthemesothelialstomata.Adipokinesandfattyacidsfromthisdepothavedirectaccesstotheliverthroughtheportalcirculationwhichmayleadtohepaticdysfunction.
MESENTERICADIPOSE
Mesentericadiposelieswithinthethinlayersoftheperitonealmesotheliumconnectingthesmallandlargeintestine.Adiposeaccumulationwithinthisdepotcorrelateswithanincreasedriskofmetabolicdisease.
PERIRENALADIPOSE
Perirenaladiposeresidesnearthekidneysoutsidetheperitonealcavity.Fatfromthisdepothasnotbeencorrelatedwithincreasedriskformetabolicdisease.
